Loose - Collaboration with Dan Gladden.

The filtering of gaze and desire through the CIS white heterosexual male perspective is still the dominant lens in which we view and understand body. A lens that Gladden and Pace aimed to shift and subvert through their exhibition Loose.
What does loose mean for this exhibition? The content of the work is loose as it unclasps us from the dominant lens of desire but it is also loose in the ways the work was produced. Separately both artists have produced work that has investigated the body as fluid, transformative and capable of existing outside of the rigid and prescribed confines of heteronormative desire. Together, they aimed to subvert the traditional notions of how we view and handle the body through collaboratively making erotica that redefined the body as penetrable, soft and boundless while also analysing the intersections of their queer lenses.
The work produced from this collaboration is boundless in both content and execution as each drawing is started by one artist, then exchanged and responded to by the other. These drawings lead to the creation of ceramics which transformed new notions of gaze into tangible objects of desire you can touch and hold. This combination of drawings and ceramics sit together to be sometimes sweet, sometimes vulgar but mostly offering a hot, sweaty, hairy and dripping alternative approach to desire.
