The Vulva (my pussy) - Collaboration with Taipei Popcorn.

The Vulva (my pussy) is part of a collaborative series of work between myself as a artist and drag queen Taipei Popcorn the performer. With this work we wanted  to produce new alternatives to the heteronormative (and pornographic) male gaze, challenge censorship of body, while simulatenously exploring the monstrous femme.

What happens when these concerns merge with Drag? An art form already heavily encoded with performative femininity. What happens when this work is taken from patriarchal encoded spaces and are instead allowed exist in queer spaces? These are the questions we are starting to ask with this work. It is through this that new conversations about the body can occur and the heteronormative lens that is applied so heavily to body can be examined. A continuous concern in my practice the work questions how we look at and handle the body through subversion of the traditional roles of gaze the the body. The extension and merging with Drag performance by Taipei Popcorn is an offering of an alternative body, an alternative space and new explorations of the abject body and desire. Be seduced, be aroused, be repulsed, be confused...
