SYRUPY BULGES

When I was 8 my mother brought me a medical journal from the supermarket and I saw images of the internal body for the first time. I remember looking for a long time at the seductive shiny surfaces and soft undulating forms of the body flayed, displayed and exposed.  I became a voyeur to the body in a completely new way.

This work is an attempt to capture this experience. It is an investigation of the corporeal body and how we view it. The body is examined, replicated and reformed through the tactility of textiles and sculptural objects that reveal the body unfixed, permeable and penetrable. We become voyeurs, seduced and repulsed when exposed to the marginal sites, orifices and rims of the body replicated in new forms and imaginings.
